Painted over several late afternoons in spring, The Body Remembers explores the ways memory lives beneath the skin through posture, through gesture, through repetition. Each canvas began without a plan and ended in a kind of recognition: a figure I knew without ever having met her. These works were never about likeness. They’re about instinct, and how the hand knows what the mind has long forgotten.

Drawn across quiet evenings and early sun, this series leans into gesture as language each mark left like a sentence mid thought. The canvases weren’t planned. They arrived. Some in fragments, some in rhythm. What remains isn’t a portrait, but presence movement made visible. These aren’t stories told they’re stories traced.

Some works don’t leave the studio. They stay close documented where they were made, captured mid-process, framed by the same light that shaped them. What’s seen here isn’t a final unveiling, but a quiet archive of how it once looked to stand in the room with them.
