A seasonal retreat for painters who need to disappear, just long enough to begin again
A working practice of rhythm, place, and presence
I design each retreat to feel like a shift in pace an invitation back into focused observation, shared time, and grounded practice. These seasonal sessions are shaped by the landscape: the texture of Corsican hills, the rhythm of the Provencal light, the hush of the Camargue. Painters arrive with different intentions, but what we build together is a temporary studio without walls, a working ground where routine is replaced by rhythm.
Each retreat blends guided study with personal space. We walk, sketch, and paint indoors and out moving between group sessions and solo study. My role is to hold the structure while allowing the looseness that lets artists work on their own terms. No rush, no race. Just time, terrain, and trust in the process.
What emerges is more than output. It’s practice redefined. These two weeks give painters a new visual rhythm to carry home one that isn’t about escape but about return. A season’s worth of work, gathered in good company, in a place that asks nothing but presence.
Ideal for artists who thrive in slowness and intention. The Quiet Ground supports sustained attention, guided visual reflection, and quiet breakthroughs that often happen just past the edge of routine.
Whether preparing for a residency, returning from one, or shifting direction entirely this immersive rhythm offers clarity, restoration, and the momentum to begin a new visual chapter.
For teaching artists, studio tutors, or critics seeking restoration through practice. These retreats provide time to re-enter the work as a participant, not a guide to focus on making, not managing.
Those in the early stages of developing a figurative language will find space here to deepen technique, expand observation, and grow in dialogue with a small group of focused peers.
For artists resuming their practice after time away this retreat offers a grounded way to reconnect. Through shared rhythm, daily painting, and guided exploration, each session becomes a return to self led study and visual confidence.
The retreat closes with a guided reflection and optional group exhibition. Artists select works in progress, unfinished ideas, and resolved pieces to share within the circle. What emerges is a visual record of return: honest, grounded, and marked by growth. Each painter leaves with a document of their season notes, images, studies, and a renewed visual thread to carry forward.
Over ten studio days, painters move between individual work and quiet critique. We work with minimal tools and focused palettes, returning to the same view, gesture, or form across multiple sessions. The days are rhythmic morning fieldwork, shared lunches, studio hours, and evening dialogue. Through repetition and observation, new patterns begin to surface.
Each retreat begins with a gentle orientation an arrival into place, purpose, and rhythm. We begin by walking the land, observing the light, and gathering early sketches. Artists are invited to name their current themes, trace their practice, and set personal goals for the two-week arc. The structure is light, but steady shaped to allow slow intention to rise.

“I didn’t come here looking for change, but I left with something rearranged. The quiet, the focus, the way Junié sees it all worked on me slowly, then all at once. I painted more honestly than I ever have. And somehow, I started listening again."
