This piece doesn’t whisper it holds its breath.
Painted in a converted olive press on the outskirts of Gordes, She Took the Room With Her captures the final moment before disappearance. The woman, turned away but fully present, leaves no trace except what the wall remembers. Broad strokes of ultramarine press against the outline of a shoulder barely contained, while dry charcoal defines the weight she carries. There’s no softness here. No apology.
This work was painted after Junié returned from Naples, carrying three rolls of unfinished canvas and one conversation she never forgot. It’s not a portrait it’s a boundary.

I painted this after returning from a summer trip that left everything sun-faded and unsettled. There’s something about the posture of the figure turned but not leaving that kept surfacing. I wasn’t aiming to resolve anything. Just to remember how it felt to sit with the mess of something unfinished.
